Imperial Hotel, Miri Sarawak
Nothing much can be written about this hotel. It's cheap, it's reasonably clean cos the rooms were refurbished a couple of years back, it's convenient (next to a shopping mall).
The standard rooms are quite small but just nice for one person.
If you watch a lot of tv like me when I travel for work, you might be slightly disappointed cos there's only the standard Malaysian national tv. From cable, it's just CNN, HBO, ESPN, NIK, Pheonix and Discovery. Like most other places in Miri, RTB (from Brunei) is available too.
Good news however, is that broadband is free in the room but remember to bring your own network cable. Wifi reception is not very good in the room but excellent at lobby and function rooms on 5th floor.
You can contact them for booking at 085 431 133.

Grand Palace Hotel - Miri, Sarawak
I don’t know why but I would always be motivated to blog whenever I’m in Miri. Could it be due to the free broadband in hotel rooms in most hotel in Miri? Actually not all hotels provide free broadband in their room. Marriott Miri charged exorbitantly for usage of broadband in their hotel rooms.
Anyway, this is not the first time I’m staying in Grand Palace. One reason I enjoy staying here is due to the fact that it’s near the place that I need to go for work. Another reason could be due to the fact that the rooms were recently refurbished and thus clean, and also that the beds and bedspreads and linens are new. It certainly could not be due to the boring breakfast they served each morning.
The anemities in room are pretty all standard. However, the hotel has something to offer that is quite unique. Grand Palace Hotel is promoting their mini-bar at only RM15+ for the whole set. One set consist of 6 cans of soft drinks, 3 types of peanut and 1 bar of kit kat. However, if you don’t want the whole set, you can opt for individual items but each item is like RM5+ per item. So, it’s more worth it to get the whole set. This is quite innovative. I was quite tempted to try.
I must put it on record now for my own reference that there’s no AXN in Grand Palace Hotel. I must have confused it with Hyatt Regency Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Grand Palace has only Star movie, disney and the usual sports, discovery, CNN among other channels and like most hotels/houses in Miri, they are able to receive broadcast from Brunei as well. Let it be noted that they do not have Vision TV.

Oh ya, I paid RM198 for my room. It’s a promotional rate. The standard rate for this is is around RM250 if I'm not mistaken.

Marriott Resort & Spa - Miri, Sarawak
I had the privilage to stay in Miri Marriott Resort & Spa recently. From what was told to me, it's THE BEST hotel in Miri, Sarawak and I was looking foward to my stay.
Arriving from a flight which reachec Miri around 9 am, I was a bit apprehensive about the possibility of checking into my room as most hotel only allows check-in after 12 noon. To my surprised (pleasant :) my room is ready and waiting for me.
Here's how the room I stayed in looks like.
Deluxe Chalet Room
What a pretty room! I LOVED a luxury hotel room. As you can see, it's on the ground floor and the sliding door opens up to a small balcony and guests can access the pool from there. This is their deluxe chalet room.
I did a quick tour of the room -
Check out the local ethnic touch to the aminities. Note the drinking bottle holderEven the rubbish bin, toilet roll holder and laundry basket were nicely 'dressed'!
Not to mention the beautiful snacks busket! Nice for picnics.
I decided to order breakfast from room service as I just dont feel like leaving the room! Here's my wontan noodle which I ate at the balcony. I can see part of the sea from where I was seated. Verdict : The wontan mee quite nice. It came pipping hot and was served with thin slices of stew duck, baby cabbage and prawn wontan.
My stay there was pretty cool. No bad experiences! I had opportunity for a quick swim in the pool. No photos - maybe next time!
The hotel guests are quite mixed - holiday makers and those who are in town on business. Unfortunately, I belong to the second category so I was not able to fully appreciate what the hotel has to offer.
I didn't have the time to check out the spa.
Neither did I have the time to try out the dinning opportunities in Marriott other than the breakfast.
For a 5-star hotel, the breakfast spread is rather limited. They have the usual fare of noodles, bread, cereal, etc. I was looking for my usual starter dish of salads but was told that they dont serve salad for breakfast. Hm...disappointing.
However, I am glad that they serve my all time favourite of Sarawak Laksa! Upon hearing that I'm from the cat city, the chef on duty quickly qualify that the Sarawak Laksa from Miri taste different than the ones from Kuching. Anyway, I tried it and yes, the taste is different. In fact it's so different that it didn't taste like Sarawak Laksa at all!
Sarawak Laksa ala Marriott Miri
The night before I was due to leave, I thought a luxury soak in the bath would be rather appealing since the hotel include bath salt in their toilletries aminities.
Unfortunately I have to scrap the idea as the water was rather poluted and slighly 'yellowish'.
See the colour of the water against the bottles of yellow shampoo and white milky hair conditioner
Such is my stay in Marriott Rosrt & Spa in Miri Sarawak.
I award it....4 chocolates
